I just moved to town and I need to find a good Elgin dentist, but I also want to do Invisalign. So, it looks like I need to find a good general office, and an orthodontist, but I’m not really sure where to start. There are a lot of choices, and since Invisalign takes so long, I will be stuck with whichever Elgin dentist I choose for at least a year. What’s the best way to choose my office, since I don’t know anyone here yet?
Thanks,
Billy
Dear Billy,
The good news is that you only need to find one Elgin dentist. Any doctor can do Invisalign, as long as he’s had the additional training to do so. It’s probably easier to find one office who can handle all your preventative care and the Invisalign anyway.
You can start by checking with your insurance company, or by running an online search. Look for before and after photos of the doctor’s actual patients, so you can see how well his patients progress. If you find one with a stellar website, but no images, you can always call and ask to see some, or schedule a consultation and ask to see them at that time. It’s also a good idea to look for online reviews, so that you can hear what experiences other people have had with that particular Elgin dentist.
You don’t need to commit to a full Invisalign treatment on your first visit, so schedule a cleaning at an office you feel comfortable with. If all goes well at the visit, ask the doctor how long he’s been doing Invisalign, and if he thinks you’re a candidate. If for some reason you’re not comfortable moving forward, you can look around for another Elgin dentist who does free consultations. This way, you will have a chance to experience another office at no cost to you.
