If you haven’t heard of All-on-4 dental implants before, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. This is one of the best ways to replace missing teeth and it’s less expensive than getting a full set of implants. It works well for people who are in generally good health, but are missing all their teeth on one or both arches, and simply involves placing four individual implants, then pairing them with a denture. The denture makes it an economical choice, while the implants secure the denture in place. That gives the prosthesis greater stability, so it feels more natural, provides greater confidence, and makes it easier to eat and speak. But, there is one other really amazing thing about going with All-on-4 dental implants: they can make you look younger.
When natural teeth are anchored into the jawbone, your body naturally maintains the shape of the jaw. In the absence of teeth, the bone begins to dissolve a bit. The body recognizes it doesn’t need to keep bone there, and so it reabsorbs the minerals and puts them to use elsewhere. The resorption process doesn’t happen overnight, but as the years go by, the jaw will become considerably thinner anywhere there aren’t teeth. If you’ve ever spoken to someone who has worn dentures for some time, they’ll probably tell you it’s difficult to get a good fit and that they feel uncomfortable. That’s because of the diminished bone structure. Chances are, if you look at that person’s face, you’ll also notice one other startling difference—their mouth will look puckered in or they’ll have lots of wrinkles around their mouth. That aged look isn’t “natural.” It’s the result of diminished bone too. In the industry, we refer to this as facial collapse.
a dental implant. The presence of an anchor like this can totally stop resorption or at least slow it down. In other words, if you have one placed right after a tooth is lost, there’s a chance you may never experience bone loss. However, not everyone is aware of this and sometimes life’s obstacles prevent us from getting beneficial treatments when we need them. The good news is, even if you’ve waited years to have this done and have already experienced some bone loss, you may still be a candidate. Modest amounts of bone loss don’t necessarily preclude treatment.
One of the greatest issues edentulous (toothless) patients face is that they can’t eat well. Without a diverse nutrient-dense diet, these individuals often become deficient, essentially starving themselves of the fuel their body needs by only eating Jellos, puddings, and broths. This impacts everything, from overall health, to energy, appearance, and mood. By going with a solution like All-on-4 dental implants, you’ll be able to continue taking in healthful foods that support all your body’s needs.
